Mountain Sky Builders Selected for Historic Saluda Museum Project

Mountain Sky Builders is proud to have been selected to support the next chapter of an important piece of Saluda’s history: the future Historic Saluda Museum.
Historic Saluda, Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of Saluda and the surrounding area, is working to transform the former Saluda Presbyterian Church into a place where local stories, artifacts, archives, and memories can be preserved and shared for generations to come.
For our team, being selected to contribute to a project with such a meaningful connection to the community we call home is an opportunity we’re especially grateful for.

Preserving the Building Before Building the Museum
Before exhibits and artifacts can move into the future museum, Historic Saluda is taking careful steps to understand and preserve the building itself.
Museum and preservation professionals have visited the property to help guide the process, including representatives from the N.C. Division of Historical Resources, the North Carolina State Historic Preservation Office, and Mountain Gateway Museum and Heritage Center.
A property condition assessment is also planned to evaluate important areas of the building, including its roof, walls, windows and doors, structural conditions, moisture and drainage, HVAC and ventilation, and overall readiness for long-term museum use.
It’s a thoughtful approach that reflects something we value in our own construction and renovation work: understanding the structure first and making decisions with its long-term future in mind.
Moving the Historic Saluda Museum Forward
With support from the Polk County Community Foundation, Historic Saluda is preparing for the next phase of improvements to the property.
Planned work includes beginning the process of connecting city water and sewer to the building, installing a modern restroom and kitchenette, and upgrading the building’s old knob-and-tube wiring. Historic Saluda announced that Mountain Sky Builders and Blotner Electric submitted the winning bids to work with the organization on this phase of the project.
We look forward to working alongside Historic Saluda and the other professionals involved as the building continues its transformation into a space the community can enjoy for years to come.

A Project Close to Home
As a family-owned, owner-led builder based in Saluda, this project carries a significance that goes beyond construction.
Saluda’s historic buildings are part of what gives this community its character. Preserving them requires thoughtful planning, respect for what is already there, and an understanding that the work completed today needs to serve the community well into the future.
That makes being part of the Historic Saluda Museum project particularly meaningful to our team.
We’re honored to contribute our experience to a project dedicated to protecting the stories and history of the community we call home.
